It is mainly composed of the tire body and the flange of the two halves of the coupling, connected by bolts, relying on the frictional force between the tire and the flange end face to transmit torque. Tire type couplings are divided into two categories: convex and concave. The convex type is further divided into three types: integral with skeleton, integral without bone, and radial notch. The inner side of the tire ring is bonded to the steel frame through vulcanization method, and nuts are welded at the bolt holes on the frame for connection during assembly. This type of coupling has high elasticity, can compensate for the relative displacement between two shafts, and has good damping and a simple structure. It does not require lubrication and is relatively easy to install, disassemble, and maintain. However, its load-bearing capacity is not high, and its external dimensions are large. During high-speed operation, additional axial force may be generated due to centrifugal force, which affects the bearing life.
Elastic coupling is another common type of coupling, usually made of metal round bar wire cutting, materials including aluminum alloy, stainless steel, engineering plastics, etc., suitable for various deviations and precise torque transmission. Elastic couplings have the characteristics of zero rotational clearance and synchronous operation. They transmit torque through an integrated metal elastic body without maintenance, and have good oil and corrosion resistance. Elastic couplings can adapt to various deviations, including radial, angular, and axial deviations, with high torque rigidity and excellent sensitivity. Spiral groove type and parallel groove type are the basic series of elastic couplings. The former has excellent elasticity and small bearing load, suitable for correcting angular and axial deviations, but has poor ability to handle eccentricity.
